God putting a neighbor in the right place

A man in Homestead, Florida, got between a 63-year-old woman and two pit bulls. He told reporters it was God putting him in the right place. Breitbart’s report has the video. That sentence is his, not a campaign line.

Amy Furr’s write-up says Alex Hernandez was working near the 200 block of Northwest Ninth Terrace when he heard dogs barking and someone calling for help. “I saw the two dogs on top of her… I was able to run over at them and scream and they luckily let go,” he recalled. The woman suffered injuries on the back of her head neck arm and ankle and was taken to a hospital. Hernandez said once the dogs backed off he helped her up took her inside put her on a chair and she was bleeding everywhere. She underwent surgery and was later listed in stable condition at Jackson South Medical Center. Law enforcement described the dogs as pit bulls and Miami-Dade Animal Services took custody. Neighbor Domingo Perez said he had seen the animals loose before and kept a bar for defense. Hernandez did not give a campaign speech. He said he was grateful he was there noting “That’s just God putting me in the right place at the right time.”

Being a Christian in America this week is thanking God for ordinary courage and refusing to outsource mercy to a campaign. Run toward the scream. Name the God who put you there. And do not confuse a midterm with the least of these.
