Football is what he does. A child of God is who he is
Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson said he was standing with a family in a Massachusetts custody fight that turned on a child’s sex. Gov. Maura Healey said the child was removed over criminal charges, not over gender care. Henderson said an accusation is not a conviction. Boston.com and OutKick both have pieces of that. This is not a clean fairy tale, and it is not nothing.
Henderson posted Proverbs 22:6 — Direct your children onto the right path and when they are older they will not leave it — and wrote that this God-given right is being stripped away by the state from parents who want to honor the Lord and lead their daughter into the truth. At his locker he told reporters he saw the state take a child because parents would not affirm their daughter as a boy and heard the school tried to transition her without permission. “I don’t believe that’s right,” he said. “I believe the family being a Catholic family and having certain morals that they go by and live by… they have the God-given right to raise up their kid to know the Lord to honor the Lord.” He said the family did right by affirming her the way God created her as a girl. Football is what I do he said. A child of God is who I am. First and foremost I’m going to honor God above all else.
Honesty still matters. Governor Maura Healey has said the child was removed because of criminal charges not gender-affirming care and court documents cited by Boston.com say the father was charged with assault with those charges set to be dropped if conditions are met. Henderson answered that accusations are not the same as guilt and that innocent until proven guilty still applies. We are not inventing a clean fairy tale. We are noting an NFL player who refused to fold when the follow-up questions came.
Being a Christian in America this week is thanking God for a locker-room confession and praying for the Kutzkos and their daughter. Keep Proverbs open. Keep the parents. And do not confuse a midterm with the least of these.
